After I have evaluated your drive, I will contact you with details regarding the state of your data and what can be done to recover it. If, after evaluation, we (you and I together) decide not to continue, your drive will be returned to you for no additional charge.

The standard recovery fee covers recovery of your data as agreed upon following the evaluation. Any additional costs for the needed storage media will be negotiated prior to recovery. After we reach agreement, I'll send an invoice and once you have paid, I'll get to work.
I can return your recovered data on whatever media you like--SD card, flashdrive, external hard drive--we'll figure that out once we know the size of the recovery, or you can send one along if you'd like.  Your drive can be returned to you if it's salvageable, but I generally hold on to it if it's bad and destroy it once I know that you are satisfied with your results.
I have over 20 years of experience as a software IT professional, and this is where my expertise is. I will likely decline your case if your symptoms involve a hard drive that is beeping, clicking, or grinding, or a memory card that is completely unresponsive, as that indicates a physical problem--let me know the situation, and I'll point you in the right direction. Most data loss situations aren't this drastic, so chances are I can help.
I run a one-man operation here, and I do it because I enjoy the challenge, and I'm good at it--it's not my day job (fwiw, my day job is cyber security for a large organization). Because it's just me, there is no team of techs to blame for a breach in confidentiality--only me--and I am not prudish, judgmental, or foolish. I guarantee all your data will remain completely confidential. Your data is safe with me.
All my prices are negotiable (both ways!), but my prices are more than fair. If you have an unusually large or slow recovery, I reserve the right to adjust prices a bit (like +/- ), but you'll know before you commit to anything. If you desire--and are willing to pay for--additional services, for example, recovering data from a laptop and then reinstalling the operating system, all necessary drivers, and your user data, I can do that--we'll talk.
