    Description

EDISON AMBEROLA 50 CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH 1918 OAK WORKS EXCELLENT + CONDITION. PICK UP ONLY. This is an original vintage Amberola 50 phonograph by Thomas Edison. Serial number: SM-42104. The Amberola's last patent date is 5/7/1918. This model is slightly larger than the earlier model, the Amberola 30. It measures approximately 16 inches high, 15 inches wide, & 20 inches deep measuring from it's widest points. It weighs close to 40 lbs. The cabinet was beautifully made with quarter-sawed oak. The horn is internal. This phonograph was purchased over 22 years ago from a dealer who specializes in Edison phonographs. It is all original including the diamond "C" reproducer. Original crank. I believe there was cloth over the grill, this has long since disintegrated from age. This once very popular machine has a double spring motor capable of playing 5 4-minute records per winding. It has a highly reliable, heavy-duty helical gear drive. The Reproducer is a Diamond Model C, the only option for this phonograph. These phonographs were designed to play four minute records only. Edison claimed that the diamond stylus was the perfect match for the bright blue celluloid BA Edison brand records. He used a diamond instead of a needle so that the owners did not have to constantly replace needles. The only records that should be played on this machine are the Blue Amberols or the 4-minute Indestructibles. Other records may be damaged by this machine. As you can see the phonograph is in excellent condition. A couple dings to the oak here and there as would be expected from a 102 year old machine. No cracks. The machine cranks easily and works flawlessly. The sound is loud and clear. One blue cylinder will be included called "Take me to the Swanee Shore". Still has the plate under the lid saying that it was made in Orange NJ plus a small sticker that says that the cabinet was made in Edison's #18 cabinet factory. This phonograph has been well taken care of over it's lifetime. (NOTE: I JUST ADDED 5 MORE NICE BLUE AMBEROLA CYLINDER RECORDS IN THEIR BOXES PLUS THREE MORE EMPTY BOXES INTO THIS DEAL.)
