    Description

Rabari (India) Tribal Jewelry - Cloth & Bead & Coin Bracelet - Vintage
The Rabari are an indigenous tribal caste of nomadic cattle and camel herders and shepherds that live throughout northwest India, primarily in the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan.    The word "Rabari" translates as "outsiders", a fair description of their primary occupation and status within Indian society.
The Rabari are known for their distinctive art. Rabari women are renowned for their detailed embroidery and beadwork.
This Rabari tribal bracelet was purchased at a small market in Dehli in early 2000s. It was unclear if the bracelet was to be worn by a women or a man. The seller, with limited English, seemed to indicate that it was a man’s bracelet and had some association with camels (perhaps worn by Rabari camel herders).
In any case it is a colorful and distinctive piece of ethnic jewelry (and unique from traditional silver and gold jewelry of India)
