    Description

    An
extraordinarily original drawing by Townes Van Zandt, with his handwritten title "The
Lost Highway"; initialed and dated by him "21 of Oct. 1980".
    Additionally it is
signed by "Jimmie" who almost certainly is his friend
and fellow musician Jimmie Dale Gilmore, who was a friend of Van Zandt, and who's autograph matches the one signature here.
We obtained this from a musician for whom Van Zandt drew it.  As explained by the accompanying letter of provenance:
I was 23 years old the night I crossed path With Townes about 41
years ago in South Royalton VT. I was working as a bartender at a rock club
    named
Zonkers, Townes was performing across the green at a pub restaurant
    called the South Royalton House.
After the gig, he came over to the club and sat down at my bar. He
was with a sidekick named Jimmie. If it was Jimmie Dale Gilmore, the time line
    fits and it’s
a known fact he and Townes were good friends. After closing the
bar, the three of us headed over to the Terrace Inn Lodge (where I was living).
    We hung out
in the Lodge that night trading off songs on the guitar in front of
the fire. Before he disappeared into the morning light, he drew me a sketch of
    the lost
highway, of which I believe was an early idea of his label logo.
Townes drew the sketch and both he and Jimmie signed it. I know it was 1980
    because it was
a couple months before John Lennon’s murder.
As I remember Townes, although we were all quite high, he was
polite, witty and quite funny. Sorry I can’t remember the exact songs he
    performed. At the
time I was not familiar with his work...
The sketch remained in my possession for 41 years and every few
years I would find it and smile in memory of that
    amazing night I ran into
Townes in a little New England town in rural central Vermont.
This remarkable artifact is the first drawing by Townes Van Zandt we've seen.
8" x 4 7/8".  In very good condition, with a tiny stain to the top left edge, long flattened horizontal and vertical creased down the middle, and some overall creasing, none of which detracts from the artwork.
With the letter of provenance from the original recipient and Recordmecca's written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
