This is anearly advance RED PRINT
UNUSED
WOODSTOCK ticket
for Friday August 15th, 1969.
A ticket is an 'early issued' single day advance ticket. This is a Friday red print which as all advance tickets are very rare and there are few of these around. If any tickets made it to the grounds and were actually used, they are the ones, except for some three day tickets (often separated in parts) which are rare as well. For whatever reason, VERY FEW of these remain. You'll find crisp UNUSED three day tickets out there, but very few crisp tickets and almost no black ones. If there were any, the extras were just not kept as there are none, period.
Almost all Woodstock tickets that are easily available on Ebay today are the unused tickets with RED PRINT, which are
new old stock and were meant to be sold
at the gates but that never had a chance to happen. Even the less common advance tickets also were never used and also in RED PRINT. All those common red print tickets were haphazardly found stashed by promoter's friends, family and heirs in fairly large quantities within the last 20 years (roughly) and sold off. Now, although they are genuine and most in excellent condition, there are tons of those out there.
Apparently, the black print were the only tickets that were
carried to the show. I don't remember ever seeing any used red ones!! And only a few
rare
black print ones like this one.
Although 186,000 advance single day & three day tickets were actually SOLD in 1969,
almost none
of these remain. Probably because of the rainy mess and the camping out,
VERY FEW
made it back to the cars. So,
these
are the rarity, not the new old stock or the molded ones that are out there. This is easily differentiated by its BLACK PRINT.
This ticket
is in fairly nice condition, considering where it went and that it even managed to come back!
You have quite a Woodstock Historical Document here!!
It has creasing, discoloration, a pin hole, slight separation at the top of the perforation, light staining and handling wear. It is very hard to find a full unused ticket, there are more stubs around and even those are hardly seen. Almost all the same tickets I have come across look similar to this one. Some are a little less faded and have better color, but are more dinged or otherwise damaged. I've had much better luck finding better condition stubs.
